Frequently asked questions

How much ground beef per person for burgers?

Plan on about 1/3 lb (150g) of ground beef per adult for a normal appetite. Light eaters need around 1/4 lb, big eaters 1/2 lb. This calculator does the math for any crowd size and appetite level.

How many burgers per pound of ground beef?

You get about three 1/3-lb patties, four 1/4-lb patties, or six 2-oz slider patties per pound of ground beef.

How many buns and cheese slices do I need?

One bun per patty, plus about 10% extra for breakage. For cheeseburgers, one slice of cheese per patty (two if you are going extra cheesy).

Should I buy extra?

Yes — always add a small buffer. This tool already rounds up and adds a sensible safety margin so nobody goes hungry, but for a big cookout an extra pound of beef and a spare pack of buns is cheap insurance.

What sides go well with burgers?

Classic French fries never miss, but sweet potato fries, fried yuca, onion rings, coleslaw, and corn on the cob are all great cookout sides. Pick any of them above and this calculator adds the right quantity straight to your shopping list.
